According to legend, God gave the Scots the task of making whisky so man could face his problems with a smile. They take this responsibility seriously and are proud of what they make. To the Scots, only they make real whisky and their whisky has no “e.”

 

Colin Stuart is the best whisky maker in Scotland. When an opportunity arises to become a full partner in an American whiskey company, Colin takes it, leaving his life in Scotland behind. On the voyage to America, Colin meets Lady Rose Cavendish, widow, and mother to nine-year-old Mia. He welcomes her company and friendship, but knows he can never have a woman of her class. As the ship travels to America, their friendship develops into a romance that is continued on land.

 

But forces are at work to prevent Lady Rose and Colin from pursuing a life together. Rose’s lady’s maid Edith can’t stand the thought of a commoner—a Scotsman, no less—marrying the esteemed lady of the house. The odds are against Rose and Colin, she an English aristocrat and he a Scottish commoner. Whether their romance lasts will prove to be a test of endurance and fate.
